As Christmas approaches, there are lots of things to think about and medication needs are often forgotten, but NHS Luton Clinical Commissioning Group (BCCG) is reminding patients to be prepared and make sure they have the right medicines to see them through the festive period.

Many local doctors’ surgeries and pharmacies will have different opening hours between Christmas and New Year, so anyone with a long-term health condition should order and collect their repeat prescriptions in plenty of time before the holidays.

Tess Dawoud of Assistant Head of Medicines Optimisation at Luton Clinical Commissioning Group said: “In order to stay well, patients should make sure they have enough medicine to see them through the Christmas and New year holiday period.

"This is particularly important if you have a long-term health conditions and need regular medication.  If you are planning to be away from home over Christmas or New year, please remember that opening times for GP surgeries and pharmacies will be different from normal, so now’s the time to get organised with your medication.

“It’s also a good idea to stock up your medicine cabinet so that you have self-care remedies to hand –rather than having to go out in wintry weather when you feel unwell. A pharmacist can advise on what to keep in your medicine cabinet.”

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered quickly and easily by using GP Online Services.  It’s simple to register and you can also make and cancel appointments and view your  medical records. If you are not already registered, you can find out more or ask for a registration form from your GP Practice.
